Common Troubleshooting Questions: Creating & Publishing Courses

If you are having difficulties creating or publishing a course, this article covers common trouble shooting questions.

Why can't I publish my course?

1. Check that all your modules are valid.

You require at least one module in your course  AND all modules in your course have to be valid.

You can check that your modules are all valid by navigating to the ' Modules' page in the create/edit course journey.

You'll see a table displaying a summary of your modules. The ' Status' field will tell you if your module is valid or invalid.

For a module to be valid it must contain at least one learning resource  OR a questionnaire.

In the example above, 'Module 2' does not contain a learning resource (No. Files = 0), nor does it contain a questionnaire (MCQ - multiple choice questionnaire - shows as 'No').

To resolve this you can:

  1. Delete the module - if you don't actually need it
  2. Add at least one learning resource to the module
  3. Add a questionnaire to the module (with at least one question and two valid answers)
  4. Add at least one learning resource and a questionnaire (with at least one question and two valid answers) to the course

2. Check that your questionnaire is valid

If your module contains a questionnaire but is still invalid, check the questionnaire itself has been set up correctly.

In this scenario, the module contains a 'Questionnaire', but upon checking the 'Questionnaire' section of the create/edit module page it shows that no questions & answers have been added.

To resolve this you can:

  1. Disable the questionnaire (toggle it off) if you do not want to include a questionnaire in the module
  2. Add at least one question with at least two valid answers to the questionnaire by clicking 'Add question'

3. Check you have correctly configured the Certificates Page

You will be unable to publish your course if you have not completed the 'Certificate' page for your course.

These are mandatory fields as they are displayed on the certificate:

  • Learning Content: You need to provide a summary of what content the course covers
  • Aims & Objectives: You need to provide the aims & objectives of the course
  • Development Outcomes: If you are a GDC or NMC accredited platform you also need to select at least one Development Outcome
