How to charge for Membership Products

This article covers how you charge for your Membership Products. You can control these settings from the 'Pricing & Duration' page in the create/edit Membership Product journey.

Setting Duration, Price & Payment Terms

Membership Duration

  1. No End Date: This will give Learners unlimited access to your platform. Their membership will not expire so you would have to manually expire their membership or disable their account to prevent them from continuing to access the platform.
  2. Limit To: You can set an expiry date for the membership so that it expires after 14 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, or 5 years. The expiry date is calculated from the date of registration/renewal to the membership.

Price & Payment Terms

You can choose to make your membership free, or you can charge for the membership.

Important: You will be unable to select a paid option if you have not connected a Stripe account to the platform.

If you decide to charge for a membership product, you have three options to choose from:

  1. One off payment: Learners will be required to make a one-time payment at the time of registering or renewing to the membership product from your registration/renewal page.
  2. Monthly recurring payments: Learners will be charged automatically each month for the duration of the membership. The first payment will be taken at the time of registering to the membership. If renewing to a monthly recurring payment membership then the first payment will be taken on the day of renewal.
  3. Monthly Payment Plan: Learners can pay for access to your membership in instalments. The first payment is taken at time of registration and then subsequent payments are taken monthly. For example you might offer a 12 month membership that needs to be paid for in two installments of £50. The first £50 is taken at time of registration, the second the following month. Then no further payments are taken for the duration of the membership. If renewing to a membership that requires monthly instalments, the first payment is taken on the renewal date and then subsequent payments are taken monthly.

Editing Duration, Pricing & Payment Plan Rules

Once you have at least one active learner on your membership product you will be unable to change the duration of the membership product. Nor will you be able to change the payment terms. For example you cannot change the membership product from free to monthly recurring payments.

However if you do charge for the membership you can change the price (amount). For example if you have set the payment terms to 'Monthly Recurring Payments' and set the price to £10, you can change the price to £20.

The change to the price will only affect new Learners who register/renew to the membership product after the change has been saved.

The price WILL NOT change for existing Learners already registered to the membership product.
