Resource Centre

This article covers the core elements of the ClickLMS Resource Centre feature. Please note this is an optional feature and may not be available on your current ClickLMS membership plan. Please contact the ClickLMS team if you would like to activate this feature on your site.

The Resource Centre is a download library for your students - think of it like an in-built Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive where you can upload assets, documents, templates, links etc for your students to search and download.

When this feature is enabled, a new menu item will appear for your students called 'Resource Centre' from where they can download any files made available to them.

To aid the user experience, the layout of the 'Resource Centre' shares many visual aspects with the existing 'Course Catalogue' and 'My Courses' pages on the Student sites.

By default all Digital Downloads added to the Resource Centre are accessible to all students with an active membership.

From within each Digital Download you can optionally add 'Access Rules' to withhold access to certain membership products.

How to enable the Resource Centre feature

In your Administrator site go to 'Content' then 'Resource Centre'. To enable this feature simply toggle the control from red to green. A green confirmation message will display when the status is changed. You can turn your 'Resource Centre' on or off at any time - your changes will be updated instantly.

If the 'Resource Centre' menu item does not appear, then please contact the ClickLMS team for more information.

How do I add a new Digital Download folder to my Resource Centre?

The layout of the 'Resource Centre' shares many similarities with the creating Courses process. To get started simply click 'Create New'. This will open a new screen from where you can set the Digital Download title, add an optional cover image, description and assign any tags or categories to aid your students' searches.

Once you have saved the 'Title' of your Digital Download you can begin to add one or more files to the folder for your students to download. The upload functionality works in the same way adding Learning Resources or Additional Resources to your courses. Either click 'Add File' / ' Add Link' or simply drag and drop your file onto the uploader box to begin the file upload.

As with Learning Resources and Additional Resources, you can edit the display title of the file to your students, or delete the file as necessary. In addition you can also take a copy of the download URL for each resource that can be shared directly with your students.

Once you have finished adding your files to your Digital Download, you are now ready to 'Publish' the files to your students' Resource Centre. Return to the top of the page and click 'Publish'. A green message will drop down to confirm your changes have been made.

To remove the Digital Download from the Resource Centre simply return to the folder in question and click 'Unpublish'.

Which file types can be added to the Resource Centre?

The Resource Centre accepts a huge range of file types from videos, images, documents to fonts. Please see the below for the full list. In addition to these file types you can also add URL / Hyperlinks which will open in a new tab for your Students.

How do I restrict access of certain Members to a Digital Download?

If your site has 'Membership Products' enabled, at the bottom of a Digital Download there is a section called 'Add Access Rules'. This section enables you to add one or more access restriction rules by Membership Product.

Toggle the section on (switch from red to green), then select one or more Membership Products from the drop down list. And click 'Save' to activate your changes.

You can change the Access Rules at any time, either by deleting a Membership Product name from the selected group, or by toggling the whole section back to red, which will open up access to the Digital Download for all Students with an active membership to your site.

How do I share a link to a Digital Download folder or a specific file with my students?

To share the URL of the Digital Download folder, click the copy URL icon on the card view of the Digital Download.

To share the URL of a specific file within a Digital Download folder, locate the resource in the table and click the copy URL icon. If the URL has expired, please copy the URL again and share with your student(s).

How do my Students access and search the Resource Centre?

When the 'Resource Centre' is enabled on your site (toggled green) and you have published at lease one Digital Download, your Students will see a new item called 'Resource Centre' in the header menu.

Your Students can sort, search, and filter in the same fashion as these existing pages to quickly locate the content they are looking.

The 'Resource Centre' leverages our 'Enhanced Search' feature, enabling you and your Students to search not just by Digital Download title, tag or category, but in addition they can search by file type (e.g. mp4), or by file name if they are searching for a particular resource.

This search example returns only Digital Downloads that contain 'pdf' file types:
